The ERV solves the tight-house problem. Modern Leander-area construction is sealed well enough that stale air, cooking odors, CO₂, and off-gassing have nowhere to go; the ERV continuously exhausts stale indoor air and pulls in fresh outdoor air through your existing ducts, at 225 or 280 CFM depending on the model.
The 'energy recovery' part is what makes ventilation affordable in our climate: the cellulosic heat-exchange core transfers heat (and with it, humidity load) between the outgoing and incoming air streams, so in August you're not paying to fully cool 100° outdoor air from scratch. Incoming air is filtered up to MERV 13 on its way in.
A Dial-A-Flow controller lets us set the ventilation rate to your home's size and occupancy, and the cores are cleanable rather than disposable. In tightly built homes it's frequently the difference between fresh and stuffy — and it's the fix we recommend before anyone reaches for scented cover-ups.

Set-and-verify beats set-and-forget: we dial the Dial-A-Flow rate to your home's size and occupancy at install, then re-check exterior intake screens at maintenance visits — a bird-nested intake is the classic silent ERV failure.
The cores are cleanable rather than disposable, which keeps ownership cost low: a yearly vacuum-and-inspect is the routine. If allergies drive your ventilation decision, pair the ERV's MERV 13 incoming filtration with a media cleaner on the main system for full coverage.
How we size it: ventilation targets follow ASHRAE 62.2 math — floor area plus occupant count — and the 225/280 CFM options with the Dial-A-Flow control give us room to hit the target without over-ventilating, which in a Texas summer means importing humidity you then pay to remove. Right-sized, an ERV freshens the house for a trivial energy cost; oversized, it becomes a moisture pump. We do the math.
