YORK® product
YORK® PHG4
The PHG4 is a dual-fuel packaged unit: a 14 SEER / 8.0 HSPF heat pump backed by an 81% AFUE gas furnace in the same cabinet. It heats with the efficient heat pump most of the winter and switches to gas when a hard freeze hits — a genuinely good match for Central Texas weather. We set the switchover point during commissioning.

YORK® PHG4
The PHG4 is a dual-fuel packaged unit: a 14 SEER / 8.0 HSPF heat pump and an 81% AFUE gas furnace sharing one cabinet. It heats with the efficient heat pump through the mild hours that make up most of a Central Texas winter, then switches automatically to gas when a hard freeze demands real recovery capacity.
Dual fuel is a genuinely good match for our weather: heat pump economics roughly nine winters out of ten, gas muscle for the February cold snap — and the switchover happens on temperature automatically once we set the balance point at commissioning. You get resilience without thinking about it.
It's the standard-efficiency tier of York's dual-fuel packaged line, available in single-phase models, with the whole machine accessible from outside for service.
Every install starts with a free in-home assessment and a flat written price — no surprises. Call 512-528-4258 or request service online.

Who this model fits
- Packaged-unit buildings with gas service that want heat pump economy plus freeze insurance.
- Owners burned by all-electric heating bills during past cold snaps.
- Standard-budget replacements of existing dual-fuel or gas/electric packaged units.
Warranty
- York: lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty (PHG gas models, with registration) and 10-year parts limited warranty.
- MLD Services: lifetime workmanship warranty — if our install or repair work ever fails, we make it right.
York's extended warranty terms require online registration within 90 days of installation — otherwise parts coverage reverts to 5 years. We register every unit we install as part of the job, so you never have to think about it.
From the field
Owning this system in Central Texas
Dual-fuel ownership is mostly invisible: the unit picks its heat source automatically once we set the balance point. What you should notice is the February gas bill staying modest and the electric bill avoiding strip-heat spikes — if either surprises you, the changeover setting is the first thing we re-check.
It carries both a refrigerant circuit and a gas train, so the annual inspection covers more ground than a single-fuel unit. Our maintenance visit checks both sides in one stop — the point of packaged equipment, after all, is one cabinet, one visit.
Where it sits in the line: against the all-electric PHE4, the PHG4's gas section buys cold-snap capacity and faster recovery for buildings that already have gas service; against the premium PHG6, it trades two-stage cooling comfort for a lower first cost. We'll price all three against your building's usage rather than assuming the middle is always right.
