Is the REME HALO Worth It? An Honest Take

Whole-home air purifiers like the REME HALO-LED can genuinely help some Leander households — and are an unnecessary add-on for others. Here's who actually benefits, who can skip it, and how to decide without the upsell pressure.

The REME HALO-LED is one of the most-pitched HVAC add-ons in Central Texas — and one of the most misunderstood. The honest answer to "is it worth it?" is: it depends entirely on who lives in your home and what problems you're trying to solve. For the right household it's a real upgrade. For the wrong one, it's money better spent elsewhere. Here's how we help Leander families decide.

What it is

The REME HALO-LED is a whole-home air purifier that mounts inside your ductwork, downstream of the air handler. As your system circulates air, the unit uses LED light and a catalytic reaction to reduce airborne and surface contaminants throughout the house — bacteria, viruses, mold spores, smoke, cooking and pet odors, and certain VOCs. Because it treats every room your ducts reach, it does something a single plug-in room purifier can't.

When it's genuinely worth it

You'll likely see real value if one or more of these is true:

  • Allergies or asthma in the home. Reducing airborne irritants can make a noticeable difference for sensitive household members.
  • Frequent respiratory illness passing between family members.
  • Persistent odors from cooking, pets, or smoke that filtration alone doesn't solve.
  • A past mold or humidity problem (common in older Hill Country homes and during humid stretches).
  • Immune-compromised household members where cleaner air is a priority.

When you can probably skip it

We'll tell you straight when an add-on isn't the right call:

  • No one in the home has allergies, asthma, or air-quality complaints.
  • Your real issue is airflow or filtration — sometimes the fix is the right MERV-rated filter changed on schedule, or a duct cleaning, not a purifier.
  • Your budget is better spent on a failing system or comfort problem first. A purifier on an undersized or leaky system won't fix the underlying comfort issue.

An air purifier is a complement to good basics, never a replacement for them. If your home feels stuffy or your bills are high, start with why your summer bill is so high and basic system health first.

How we recommend it (the no-pressure way)

MLD Services is education-first by design. When we look at indoor air quality, we ask what problem you're trying to solve before we recommend any product. If a REME HALO-LED fits your household, we'll explain exactly why and quote a flat, written price. If it doesn't, we'll tell you — and point you to the cheaper fix that will. That repair-first, no-upsell approach is the same one we've used in Leander since 2009, backed by our 100% Satisfaction guarantee.

Quick Answers

Frequently asked

What does the REME HALO actually do?
The REME HALO-LED is a whole-home air purifier that installs in your ductwork. It uses light and a catalytic process to reduce airborne and surface contaminants — bacteria, viruses, mold spores, odors, and some VOCs — as air circulates through the system. It treats the whole house, not just one room.
Who benefits most from a whole-home air purifier?
Households with allergy or asthma sufferers, frequent respiratory illness, strong cooking or pet odors, recent mold concerns, or anyone who simply wants cleaner indoor air. If no one in the home has air-quality complaints, a good filter plus regular duct maintenance may be all you need.
Is the REME HALO a substitute for changing my filter?
No. An air purifier complements good filtration and maintenance — it doesn't replace them. You still need the right MERV-rated filter changed on schedule and clean ducts for any IAQ device to perform well.
How much does a REME HALO cost to install?
Installed pricing varies with your system and ductwork. Call us for current REME HALO-LED pricing. We quote a flat rate up front and will tell you honestly whether it's a good fit for your home before you commit.
